After exploring various forms of woodworking in my artistic practice, I fell in love with the old technique of wood carving (träbildhuggeri) during a course at Sätergläntan in Dalarna.
My wood relief carvings (träreliefer) incorporate playful designs and bold color choices. I enjoy juxtaposing traditional techniques with more modern motifs, and I often draw inspiration from folk art and outsider art.

Wood carving had its heyday in Sweden during the late 1700’s, when the technique was highly sought after for furniture decor. Since then, it has largely fallen to the wayside and there are very few professional wood carvers active in Sweden today.

Wood carving encompasses so many different skills that I enjoy. From coming up with a motif and figuring out the best way to translate it onto the wood, to carving and hammering the motif out with chisels and mallets (first the rough outlines, then the more delicate details), to finally painting the piece.

Upcycled Mirror Frame

I found this large mirror frame at a thrift store, and gave it new life with painted wood cutouts. The result was ‘Spegelram med får’ (‘Mirror frame with sheep’).

Handcrafted Toy Box

I built this toy box for my oldest son as a gift for his second birthday. Not only does it hold a lot of toys - it turned out to be the perfect size for him to sit and ride around in, too!

Handcrafted Mirror Frame

This mirror hangs in the entryway of our home. It’s perfect for checking your hair our your hat before leaving the house.

Woman Candle Holders

My series of Woman Candle Holders celebrates female creativity, diversity and playfulness. Each candle holder in the series is named after an artist who has inspired my creative practice - Frida (Frida Kahlo), Laurie (Laurie Anderson) and Grace (Grace Jones).
